It's been a while since I've blogged.  I've not quite caught up yet from vacation.  My wife and I took a small trip, to South Korea.  We had an absolutely amazing time!  We stayed with family.  Family, not in the traditional sense.  We've hosted Korean students for several years, and we've cared for one for more than 4 years now.  And in simple terms, he is our Korean son.   We had opportunity to be with his family for 2 weeks, and loved it.  And in talking with his dad right before we left, we really understood, that we too are part of their extended family.  I think we all were in tears at that point.  I miss the family.  And I know at some point we'll be going back, and I can't wait. 
 

We visited a lot of the historical sites in southern Korea, and experienced things we never knew we would.  Being in Korea helped us understand some of the things we experienced as parents with our hosted students.  We've incorporated a small amount of Korean cuisine into our diet, but after this trip, the shopping experience at the Asian market was a whole new experience.  We didn't know about the foods we were shopping for, but now we have a bit more experience, and came home with a lot more than we ever had before.  *Chuckles*  We had rice for supper last night, and our son looked at the rice and casually asked "What did you do to the rice?" (He's used to seeing white sticky rice, and now the rice was a purplish color).  My wife replied, "We added some black rice into the mix, this is one thing the Korean's do to add a bit of a different flavor in the rice, and it turns the rice purple."   "Okay, I thought you burned it," he replied.  At which time my wife thumped him on the head.
